Healthy WomanSeven Habits for Beautiful, Healthy Skin

Hydrate

Healthy skin is hydrated skin. Make sure you make moisture available from both inside and out. Drink plenty of non-diuretic liquids, especially those low in sugar and high in antioxidants.

Dehydrated or dry skin creates inflammation which in turn increases the signs of aging from free radical damage. Additionally, drinking adequate liquid helps flush toxins and other impurities from your body and helps minimize outbreaks.

Watch Out for Sugar

Sugars, especially those from refined carbohydrates increases glycation, the name for the process in which sugar molecules stick to protein fibers leading to a loss of skin elasticity. Once your skin looses its elasticity, it sags and forms wrinkles and is more vulnerable to sun damage.

Products rich in antioxidants like the Skin Nutrition Serums help reverse this, but think “sugar = wrinkles” the next time you’re tempted to reach for that second cookie!

It’s Okay to Sweat

Actually it’s good to perspire a little. Perspiration and sebum both help your body and skin rid itself of built up toxins and impurities that can cause your skin to erupt or show signs of aging. In moderation, they also mingle to create what’s known as your skin’s acid mantle ~ a protective barrier that helps protect your skin from the elements (wind and pollutants) while inhibiting growth of harmful bacteria and fungi.

If you find your own perspiration irritating, try upping your intake of water to dilute the toxins as they are released, and plan on rinsing or dry wiping yourself soon after exercising. If you perspire more often, your perspiration will be less concentrated with potentially irritating impurities.

Watch Your Water Temperature

Hot showers and long, hot soaks may feel like they’re good for you, but your skin may disagree. Keep the temperature just a few degrees warmer than your body and you won’t dry out your skin (or feel like a wet noodle after your soak.)

To help keep the water temperature consistent, add mineral rich sea salts or magnesium sulfate (Epson salts) to keep the heat from leaving the water. These salts will also help increase your circulation and any discomfort from stressed muscles while providing your skin with the mineral nutrition it needs to function well.

Know About the Ingredients in the Products You Use

Our philosophy is to be mindful about the ingredients we select to make sure they are safe for you and Mom Nature. Although we agree it’s not the most consumer friendly system, we do label our products using the proper CTFA nomenclature to be as transparent as we can be.

Additionally, we use as few ingredients as we can and always in meaningful amounts that authentically deliver our brand promise. Every product has its full ingredient declaration on every product 'and in the details of each products listing on our website. Definitions and more familiar names are listed in our Ingredient Dictionary for each product collection.

Treat Yourself to a Face Massage

Add a minute or two to your morning or evening routine for a little Face Time while your apply your Serum or Moisturizer. Your face is home to an amazing network of nerves and muscles that can vitalize you from head to toe.

Facial massage can be a physical, mental and spiritual boost. A few deep breaths and pressure on the right trigger spots can stimulate your immune system, help your lymphatic system flush toxins from your body, aid in digestion or reducing congestion and headaches, or even increase your concentration and learning power.

Sunscreen

Start each morning, all year long, with a safe, physical sunscreen to minimize UV damage that causes skin aging and may cause skin cancer. UV damage happens on cloudy days, through glass when you are near a window or in a car, as well as from inside lights and computer screens.

Use a minimum of SPF 15, higher if you plan to be in direct sunlight or are currently using a product with sun-sensitizing glycolic acid or retinol.
