Introducing New Leaf Organics

Watsonville, CA (June 2008) Smith and Vandiver is proud to announce their new certified organic line of earth-friendly bath and body products.

New Leaf Organics™ is the first organic product line certified under OASIS (Organic and Sustainable Industry Standards). The organization is dedicated to providing verifiable standards that support and promote organic and sustainable production for the health and beauty industry. “We’re proud to add this certification to our existing USDA National Organic Program Processor certification, and to be the first ever to launch our New Leaf Organics product line under the OASIS plan,” says President Jeff Slaboden. “With over a 25 year tradition of bringing safe, natural skincare products to the market, we’re excited about finally having a credible way to help consumers evaluate the sustainability of the products they choose.”

Many consumers don’t really understand that organic is a measurement of sustainability, and that what you don’t use is as important as the organic raw materials you do use in your formulations,” says company founder, Alida Stevens. “We’re proud to align ourselves with OASIS and to help educate and promote the use of organics with conscientious consumers.”

The New Leaf Organics collection of 16 products, includes (6) bar soaps, (4) body washes, (2) shea butter creams, (2) sea salt soaks and (2) foaming hand washes, all with the highest content of organics possible. “Every ingredient that can be organic, is organic.” All other ingredients are on the NOP or OASIS short list of allowed ingredients or processing agents which is what qualifies the products to be certified. Unlike some of the European certification programs that only require 10% organic content without regulation on the other ingredients, OASIS certification helps consumers know they are getting products with meaningful organic content.

Additionally, the New Leaf Organics packaging uses recyclable PET packaging with 25% recycled content, labels are printed with vegetable inks on bamboo “paper” and soap boxes with 50% post consumer content that are made without chlorine using 100% wind power.
